Billy Ray's, Prestonsburg, KY

    So, for dinner this evening I tried a local place called Billy Ray's in Prestonsburg, KY. The only reason I gave this restaurant a 3 out of 5 star rating is because of the customer service. Customer service was excellent. Otherwise it would have been a 2 star rating. I ordered sweet tea to drink, the fried mushroom appetizer, the seafood platter, and the tropical cake for dessert.

    Unfortunately, all of the fried food seemed like it was pre-breaded frozen fare. The fried mushrooms were decent. The only saving grace was that the food runner, not the server, went to the kitchen himself and made me some fresh-from-scratch creamy horseradish for the mushrooms. For me, this is a must for fried mushrooms!


    The seafood platter had 2 fish (unspecified) fillets, 5 fried shrimp, 2 fried scallops (yes, just 2), and 2 deviled crab. So, 4 fried proteins and 4 different frying styles. The fish fillets had a cornmeal crust, the shrimp were battered, the scallops had almost an overcooked panko-like breading, and the deviled crab was just plain fried. Green beans and mashed potatoes as sides with Texas toast.


    Most of it was bland. The only thing that really had any flavor was the deviled crab, which was flavorful but a bit on the salty side.

    The tropical cake was very dry and bland. So dry that I had to take sips of drink along the way. The icing was whipped and just felt like whipped grease in my mouth. The chunks of pineapple in the icing was the only thing that gave it any flavor. Not sweet at all.


    The restaurant had a decent atmosphere but you couldn't really hear the music that was playing except when entering or exiting. Overall a mediocre experience.

For lunch I tried another local place called The Brickhouse Restaurant in Prestonsburg, KY. I would have given it a 4 star review but the food prep and delivery was lacking. I'll explain... I was seated in the room furthest from the entrance. When I was seated, I was the second customer in the room. I had checked out the menu online before I went so I knew what I was going to order. Buc-ee's Snack Review: Coconut Toffee Cashews

Good day fellow Foodies! So, this blog is all about the food. Not just restaurant food, but any and all foods. And without further ado, here goes my first food product review. Today I'm blogging about what has probably become my number one favorite snack: the Coconut Toffee Cashews from Buc-ee's! These things are off-the-chart amazing! The flavor and texture combination is dynamite! The crispiness of the toffee and the crunch of the cashew with the softness of the coconut flakes... And the flavors! The sweet caramel of the toffee with the saltiness of the cashew and the coconut flavor... This snack is a powerhouse all the way around. Bluefin Japanese Restaurant, Wesley Chapel, FL

After an early morning of driving and a morning of work, I decided to have lunch at Bluefin Japanese Restaurant. I ordered a miso soup, some unagi, a Volcano roll, and a Crazy Dragon roll. The staff was very friendly and provided excellent service. The miso soup was typical of what you might get at any Japanese restaurant or sushi bar. Miso broth with seaweed and tofu. So good. Same with the unagi. Eel filet on a piece of rice with some eel sauce. The Volcano roll was good. Fake crab, avocado, and cream cheese inside, topped with crab salad, tempura crunchies, and masago. The baked crab salad is what makes this roll. Creamy and delicious. The Crazy Dragon roll was also good. Shrimp tempura and avocado inside, topped with raw tuna, masago, and eel sauce.
