    Welcome to The Honest Traveling Foodie blog! My name is Trip. Good food is one of my passions. I love good food and I love trying new places. I travel all over the country for my job as a Project Manager. So, I figured why not combine two things that I enjoy? Food and travel!


    So, why The HONEST Traveling Foodie? In my personal life, I value honesty and integrity. I want to present the food I review in the same light. Honesty about taste, quality, presentation, etc. Although I will occasionally comment on service, the majority of this blog will be dedicated to the food. Taste and presentation will be the focus. There will be no staging of food. I want to portray my food as is. Honestly.
    Also, I believe in supporting local businesses. Wherever my travels take me, I do my best to avaid chains and fast food. Good or bad, I eat local.
    As a side note: I will rarely review fast food. Anyone who has eaten fast food knows the quality and knows that what you get never looks like the picture.

Buc-ee's Snack Review: Coconut Toffee Cashews

Good day fellow Foodies! So, this blog is all about the food. Not just restaurant food, but any and all foods. And without further ado, here goes my first food product review. Today I'm blogging about what has probably become my number one favorite snack: the Coconut Toffee Cashews from Buc-ee's! These things are off-the-chart amazing! The flavor and texture combination is dynamite! The crispiness of the toffee and the crunch of the cashew with the softness of the coconut flakes... And the flavors! The sweet caramel of the toffee with the saltiness of the cashew and the coconut flavor... This snack is a powerhouse all the way around. Now, I know that there are not a lot of Buc-ee's stores around the country. But they are slowly expanding. We just got one close to my home town. Billy Ray's, Prestonsburg, KY

     So, for dinner this evening I tried a local place called Billy Ray's in Prestonsburg, KY.  The only reason I gave this restaurant a 3 out of 5 star rating is because of the customer service. Customer service was excellent. Otherwise it would have been a 2 star rating. I ordered sweet tea to drink, the fried mushroom appetizer, the seafood platter, and the tropical cake for dessert.      Unfortunately, all of the fried food seemed like it was pre-breaded frozen fare. The fried mushrooms were decent. The only saving grace was that the food runner, not the server, went to the kitchen himself and made me some fresh-from-scratch creamy horseradish for the mushrooms. For me, this is a must for fried mushrooms!      The seafood platter had 2 fish (unspecified) fillets, 5 fried shrimp, 2 fried scallops (yes, just 2), and 2 deviled crab. Bodine's Biscuits, Prestonsburg, KY

  Yesterday I went to Bodine's Biscuits in Prestonsburg, KY, for breakfast. 3 out of 5 stars. Blandly average. I ordered the Big Breakfast Platter which came with 3 eggs, 2 meats, and a biscuit. I also ordered a side of sausage gravy and a home made apple fritter. The apple fritter was extremely dry. The pastry had no flavor, except for the little bit of apple in the middle. I took a couple of bites out of it then decided to take the rest back to my room with me so I could have some milk with it to help moisten it up. Next, the Big Breakfast Platter. I ordered my eggs scrambled and I got the sausage and shaved ham for my meats. The eggs were simply scrambled, but overcooked and dry. No seasoning, not even salt and pepper. The ham and sausage were well cooked. The ham was salty. The sausage was flavorful but I overheard the manager telling another patron that it was just Jimmy Dean sausage.
